Peter,

The chart is comparing Kris Russell to Alex Coligoski.

And Stuart is an anchor not an actor......

These are very interesting stats. Peter, do you agree with what Gary Lawless said? Is Trouba pushing for top 4 minutes to get away from Stuart (who should be bought out or waived, he's terrible!). I can't blame the kid for asking for a better playing situation or at least more of a chance so he can prove why he deserves a big contract.....

NHL needs to introduce some kind of franchise system like the NFL has, a 1 year deal at market rate

Maybe the average of the top 5 players salary from your draft year, or top 5 with the same NHL experience or something

Seems like every player is getting a 7 year deal whether they deserve it or not

I can't remember if I ever did a blog on this but I think I did- if the NHLPA was a true union.

Stuart would get Toews and Kane money because of his seniority but do the least amount of work.

Trouba would get nothing and have to be the last to leave the locker room too.

Basically I don't think a franchise tag affects the NHL in the same way. The problem is this I think Trouba's camp is saying that he can do more deserves the opportunity without being a dink and saying Stuart sucks

I'm more in favor of a team having one player whose cap hit would not be included in their salary cap. It would have to be to a player who was drafted by the team and who has never had his rights held by another team. If the player was traded, his cap hit would count for the new team. It doesn't mean the player gets paid less, but it's a reward for building a good team from within. The HRR split makes it nearly impossible, though.

I've been of the belief that teams should be able to trade or sell their cap space, at least for the season. then after they have to be compliant by September.

Or

They can keep buying/trading for space to be compliant but they pay a luxury tax on it as well.

I am not a Mark Stuart fan nor have I ever been.

I do feel bad for the guy as he is being told that he sucks by Jacob Trouba. This cannot be good for the locker room. As Stuart is somehow the holy goat there and he could potentially cause problems for Trouba if he returns to the locker room.

What would be the asking price for trouba?

Top 4 dman, top 9 forward, blue chip prospect and a high pick?

I can't help but feel like Trouba would a much better player (or have his stats reflect how good he actually is) if he had been played with Byfuglien or Enstrom from day 1 (Myers is too similar. I don't think they'd work well). I like Mark Stuart, and he was surprisingly good during the lockout year. That said, he's struggling to keep up now more than ever. Time to press box him or buy him out.

I doubt it. I'd be happy with a top 4 dman and a high pick. Like, ecstatic. The questions I want answered is how much do we have to add with Trouba to swing a deal for Lindholm?

To WPG: Lindholm

To ANA: Trouba, 2017 2nd round pick, Thorburn

Great trade for both teams!

I'm amused by how undervalued Lindholm is.

I wouldn't be suprised if by the first regular season game, a player emerges who will replace Mark Stuart and by doing so, change the whole chemistry on defence...

That would ruin the league. Those losers in Toronto would keep trying to buy cups.

Most people hate them enough as it is with them finishing outside the playoffs.

people would stop watching hockey if they could do that.

Yeah. It's not fair when you have teams who can afford to throw away tens (hundreds?) of millions, and not even blink an eye. Small market teams would likely get shafted.
